S.T.A.R.S.--Sharing The Art of Rubber Stamping

Simply Scrappin' Club--Pina Colada Part 3 of 4

I know this isn't a cute Halloween page or candy idea, but it's SCARY that I've actually posted for 4 days in a row!!  Oohh!! Ahhh!!  Okay, on with the show:

 

I was able to scraplift this layout from "Alesha" at Split Coast Stampers.  You can find the original layout idea done with the Summer Days SSK by "Alesha" on SCS HERE .

The title block below was inspired by one of the scrapbook pages on the product insert for the Pina Colada SSK...THANKS Stampin' Up! for the great idea!  It was a little tricky getting all the sticky little pieces in just the right spots, but I think the end result was worth it!

 

Here's what the pages looked like before I added the title, my photo & other embellishments.

 

Here's what I used from the Pina Colada SSK to make these pages:

2--Tangerine Tango 12x12 Textured Cardstock

1--So Saffron Dots/Old Olive Floral DSP---might be able to use some of the scraps from the last set of pages---Trim 2--1x12 So Saffron pieces and Trim 2--2x12 Old Olive Floral pieces

Border Strips--Old Olive with white dotted twirly lines; Riding Hood Red Stripes; Multi-color Flowers

EXTRA not in kit--2 pieces 8.5x11 Old Olive trimmed down to 8.5x8.5...You'll need the other Old Olive from the kit for the final layout, SO DON'T TRIM UP THE OLD OLIVE TEXTURED CARDSTOCK FOR THIS SET OF PAGES OR YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE RIGHT SIZE OLD OLIVE TEXTURED CARDSTOCK FOR THE LAST SET OF PAGES!!  Get it?  Got it?  Good!

Here's how to assemble the page:  Starting at the bottom of the Tangerine Tango Card Stock, place Old Olive Border Strip approximately 1/4 inch off the bottom edge.  Next attach the So Saffron Dots DSP.  Then the Riding Hood Red Border Strips followed by the Multi-Color Flowers Border Strips. Finish up the strips with the Old Olive Floral DSP.

Place Old Olive 8.5x8.5 pieces 1/4 inch from top of Tangerine Tango Card Stock flush with inner edges.  Voila!  You're done!  Wasn't that so easy?  Add title, photos & decorate as you please.

Simply Scrappin' Club--Pina Colada #2 of 4

 

Here's the 2nd-2 page layout that we made at my NEW Simply Scrappin' Club.  I scraplifted this fabulous layout HERE by Nancy Kliewer.  You can look at her SWEET blog HERE.  Nancy made her pages before Stampin' Up! came out with the Scallop Edge Punch, so I can't even imagine how tricky it must have been for her to make the scalloped edges.

   

By the way, "Papillion" is the name of the town we lived in in Nebraska.  Think "million" when you pronounce "Papillion".  I think it's the French word for "butterfly", but of course when they say it, it would sound so nice!!

Here's how it looked before I added the photos, title & decorative elements.

 

Here's what you'll need from your Pina Colada SSK to make these pages:

2--Riding Hood Red 12x12x Textured Cardstock Pieces

2--So Saffron Dots DSP Sheets--taking note of the direction of the dots, cut 1 piece: 9x9.5 and cut 1 piece 9x10...IF for some reason, you don't cut them both going the same direction, do not despair, most of the dots will be covered by photos...it's okay...really!!

1--Multi Stripes DSP Sheet PLUS left over 1x12 piece from yesterday's pages.

2--Tangerine Tango Border Strips with the Scalloped Edge

Extra Not In Kit:  Whisper White 12 x12---trim 2--1 1/4 x 12 strips and trim 1--1 3/8 x12 strip.  Next use Scallop Edge Punch (or scallop edge scissors) & scallop one edge on each of the three strips.

To Assemble Pages:

1.  Attach  trimmed So Saffron Dots DSP pieces to Riding Hood Red 12x12, 1 1/4 inches from the top.  The 9x9.5 piece goes on the LEFT page...with the 9 inch edge completely flush with the right hand edge of the cardstock.  The 9x10 piece goes on the RIGHT page...with the 9 inch edge completely flush with the left hand edge of the cardstock.

2.  Attach Tangerine Tango Scalloped Border Strips to opposite outside edges of each page.  The scalloped edge was approximately 1/8 of an inch from the edge making the straight edge approximately 1/2 inch from the edge.

3.  Adhere 1x12 inch Multistripe DSP on top of the 1 3/8 x12 piece you have already scalloped.  The scalloped edge will just barely peek out from behind the Multistripes DSP.  Now attach this piece next to the Tangerine Tango Border Strip on the RIGHT hand page with the white scallops on the LEFT side of the Multistripe DSP.

Now we come to the really "fun" part of the page.  I know there must be a simpler way to accomplish this, but this is what I did to create the curve & have the scallops peeking out from underneath.  Let me know if you know of the easier way! :)  Just remember, you are only doing this for ONE scrapbook page, it's not like I'm asking you to do this on 100 pages! 

4.  To get the curved edge, I placed a small oval casserole dish on my Multistripes DSP.  I measured the outer edges to make sure they would be approximately the same.  They were about 5 3/4 inches from the edge of the paper.  The center of the dish is approximately 2 1/8 from the edge of the center of the paper.  I then used a pencil to lightly draw the curved edge & trimmed it out...does that make sense??  NO?  See the photo below:

 

5.  In order to get the scallops to bend, you have to do a little bit of tedious scissoring, but it's soooo worth it!!  I used my Paper Snips to cut from the bottom straight edge up to about 1/8 from "valley" between the scallops.  I trimmed one whole 12 inch strip, plus approximately 4-5 inches of the second strip.  You can already see how the strips are curving just from being cut.  See the photos below (you can click on any of the photos to get a larger picture):

   

6.  Now you "get" to attach the scallop edge to the DSP.  With the Tangerine Tango Floral DSP side showing, place a generous amount of your Dotto Adhesive along the ENTIRE CURVED EDGE...don't skimp!  What I like about the Dotto Adhesive (aka Hermafix) is that it's strong enough to hold your scrapbook page elements together, but it's also not soooo sticky that you can't move things you have previously adhered...which comes in to play big time with putting this scallop edge down on the DSP.  Starting at one edge at about the 3rd or 4th scallop in, start working your way around the curve.  I think when I did it, I worked mainly from the back edge, putting the scallop down so I just couldn't see the DSP showing in the "valley".  12 inches will not cover the entire curve.  That's why I had you cut a little bit into the other scallop strip.  Once you've covered the entire curve.  Trim off excess following the straight edge of the DSP and attach to the left side of the RIGHT page next to the Tangerine Tango Border Strip.  See the photos below.

     

Ta-Dah!!  You did it!!  Whew!!  Now, isn't that just the cutest page ever??  Since this post is so ridiculously long, I thought I'd re-post the completed pages, so you don't have to scroll back up to the top.

My New Simply Scrappin' Club: Pina Colada

On Monday night I held my first NEW Simply Scrappin' Club meeting.  Each clubber received the Pina Colada Simply Scrappin' Kit, a package of Filigree Brads, & a little extra CS to complete the layouts.  With a little help from my excellent, scrappin' cyber friends, I was able to offer my clubbers 4-2 page layouts for their scrappin' pleasure.  I'll be showcasing one layout each day over the next 4 days.

Here's the first layout:

 

I scraplifted this idea from a Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit idea I found while Blog surfing.  There's not a name on this & it wasn't from Split Coast, so if this is you, please let me know:

Here's what you'll need to complete the above pages from the supplies from the Pina Colada Simply Scrappin' Kit:

2--So Saffron 12x12 Textured CS

1--Old Olive 12x12 Textured CS--Trim 2--4x12 strips...save other 4x12 strip for the last set of pages.

1--Tangerine Tango Floral/Multistripe Sheet of DSP--Taking note of the directions of the stripes, cut 2--4x12 strips, cut 2--1/2 inchx12 strips, and cut 2--1x12 strips...you will have one 1x12 strip left over to use on the layout I'll show you tomorrow.

2--Tangerine Tango Border Strips--the ones with little dots, not the ones with the scallops

**Extra Not in SSK:  Whisper White Cardstock for title & photo mats.  I used my Sizzix "Top Note" BIGZ Die that is exclusive to Stampin' Up! and then sponged the edges with Old Olive Classic Ink.

To assemble the pages, start 3/4 of an inch from the top of So Saffron 12x12 and attach a one inch strip of Multistripes DSP; then a 4 inch strip of Tangerine Tango Flower DSP; next a 4 inch strip of Old Olive; followed by the Tangerine Tango Border Strip; & finally place the 1/2 inch strip of Multistripe DSP.

Add photos & a title and then decorate as you like.  I waited to "decorate" with the adhesive die-cuts until I had completed all the pages & added my photos.  I wanted to make sure I had enough...and let me tell you, there was PLENTY left over!!

More Sparkle from Emma's Party

Here's a Pennant Banner I made for Emma's 8th Birthday Party. It's hanging in front of a streamer festooned window.  See below for full picture of the party.

     

Supplies Used:  Sizzix Pennnat Die (Exclusive to Stampin' Up!), Sizzix BIGZ Scallop Circle Dies

CS:  Lovely Lilac, Cool Carribbean (retired), Certainly Celery, Lavendar Lace, Tempting Turquoise, Pretty In Pink, Regal Rose, Whisper White

Extra:  Sticky Cuts Letters, Fine Cosmo Glitter, 5/8 Regal Rose Ribbon, Jumbo Flower Eyelets (retired)

Tip:  Use a Swiffer Sheet to pick up excess glitter that just won't come off the cardstock.

This was very easy to make!!

 

My friend, Tammy Johnson, came over to do a Bella Bee Workshop for Emma's Party..."The Ultimate Glamour Girl Party".  (She is a consultant for Noah's Ark--think Build-a-Bear but at your house, but it also has the Bella Bee as part of it.)  Anyway, it was kind of like a Mary Kay party for younger girls, but as they put on the lipgloss, she talked about saying kind words with our mouths.  When they did the nailpolish, they talked about kind things they could do with their hands.  The guests also wrote down nice things about Emma & she received a little album to put them in along with pictures from the party.

Emma's Passport

Just in-case you didn't know, I'm a homeschooling mama. The homeschooling curriculum we use is from My Father's World which can be found at www.mfwbooks.com  This year my eldest daughter, Emma, is in third grade and we are "Exploring Countries & Cultures". So basically, we are learning about different countries, people, plants & animals...fun! Since we will be globe trotting, one of the projects was to make a passport from a couple of sheets of folded paper....BORING!!  So, I decided to make Emma this cool passport. At the beginning of the school year, Emma had to fill out a "passport form" and address an envelope to the "passport agency" (me).  So now that the "passport agency" has had a chance to process her "paperwork", Emma finally received her "passport" in the mail a couple of weeks ago.  I thought I'd share with you what she received in the mail...actually, I did put it in a big brown envelope & ran it up to the mailbox without her knowing and then had her go "check" the mail.  (By the way, do you like my use of quotation marks??  No? Okay, I'll stop!)  She was really excited to get the big envelope & even more delighted with her passport.  I'll be sure to show you a few of her completed pages at the end of the year.

FYI:  Just about EVERYTHING I used to make this passport is retired!!  This is why I have a hard time letting go of retired stuff, because I might NEED it for something, & look, I was able to use the retired DSP, stamps, In Colors Ink & CS, & ribbons!  YEAH!!

         

I'll be sure to let you know how our adventure around the world turns out!  Although My Father's World does a great job at providing ample resources, if you have any suggestions for crafts, recipes, books, or videos that might enhance our journey, I'd love to hear from you!

Season of Thanks Frame

 

After seeing something similar to this at the Stampin' Up! Convention this past summer, I KNEW I just HAD to make one of these when these Decor Elements became available.  Click on the Decor Elements Catalog Icon over there in my Left Sidebar to see all the BRAND NEW 2nd Phase Decor Elements.  There are several Christmas ones that I can't wait to use.

Onto the Season of Thanks frame above.  Remember my last post & my struggles with the clipboard & the calendar kit??  Well, the making of this frame started my bad stampin' week!!  I think it turned out great!  BUT, it's not what I originally envisioned. 

First off, I think I bought the wrong size.  I bought the larger of the 2 & when it came, it seemed REALLY BIG!  Then, I purchased a 16 x 20 Display Case/Shadow Box Frame at Hobby Lobby, knowing it was slightly smaller than the actually dimensions....there wasn't anything else to purchase that it would fit on.  So, I figured I could cut it apart line by line & put it on the glass.  Well, I did all my measuring so that I could get it onto the glass perfectly, BUT then when I went to put it on the glass, I messed up on the first line!!  Instead of centering it on the glass at 8 inches (which would be the logical thing to do), I put it at 6.5 inches which was what the center of the Decor Element was...GRRR!!  And once those babies are done, there is NO moving them!  So now, I had to figure out how to place the rest of the elements so that it would turn out somewhat okay.  So I just off set everything.  (It comes with everything lined up & centered.)  After getting everything put on there, I realized I probably could have just cut off the little swirl flourish at the bottom & then I could have left the rest of it intact to put on the glass!!  I do like how it turned out, so I'm just letting you know about a few of the obstacles that I encountered so that you won't repeat my mistakes!!

I wanted the words & the fall foliage (which I got at Hobby Lobby) to really stand out, so that's why I used the simple & monochromatic designs of the More Mustard papers from the Autumn Vine DSP from the Holiday Mini Catalog. 

My plan is to change out the DSP & the "decorations" for each holiday/season...Christmas, Valentines, Easter/Spring, & so on.  Every SEASON, I have so much to be THANKful for, I feel truly BLESSED by God, & I have so many to LOVE & who LOVE me.  I have this in my Kitchen/Dining Room, so I see it all the time & it makes me HAPPY!  Also, when I have my "Stampin' Friends" over (as my kids like to call the ladies who come to my classes/clubs), they sit at my dining room table & they will get to look at it, too!
